Our People

Simone Simone McConnie (Lorde) – Podiatrist

Simone was motivated to be a Podiatrist as an opportunity to enter a field with a new scope adding a new dimension of treatment to her Country.  Part of that included the ability to help diabetic feet. Trained in the UK, Simone has been working in Barbados since 1994.   Not only does she hold a degree in Podiatric Medicine but earned her MBA from Durham University in 2011.

Therefore she brings a business and professional element of expertise to the clinic.  Her main clinical interest is diabetes and sports.   Her love for the diabetic foot grew after her training at the Diabetic Foot Clinic at King College Hospital, London, UK back in 1993.   This paved the way for her to become intimately involved in various projects related to promotion, education and change in diabetes care.  Whilst pioneering a new profession in Barbados she never lost focus on diabetes.  She went on to do specialist training in the field and has done extensive work with the International Working Group on the Diabetic foot in association with the Rotary Club of Ledbury, UK and local Rotary club of Barbados South in implementing the “step by step” programme across the region.  A founding member and Trustee at the Barbados Diabetes Foundation, located at the Maria Holder Diabetes Center for the Caribbean, she is continuing her work with a local team of Podiatrist to establish the first Diabetic Foot clinic in Barbados under the roof of the Center.  She continues to represent Barbados on the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) and most recently became a member of an International working group for strengthening the Podiatry profession Internationally under the auspices of her International professional body The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SOCAP).

She is a member of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, American Podiatric Medicine Association, The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists,  Barbados Sports Medicine Association and Secretary of the Barbados Association of Podiatrists.  She has worked at many events providing side line sports care including cricket, hockey and road race activities (10K’s to marathons).  She also collaborated on the production of the sporty feet publication by the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrist.  In addition she sat on the paramedical professions council in Barbados and is the representative for the overseas chapter of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (UK).

Amor Amor Forde – Podiatrist

Personable and enthusiastic, Ms. Amor Forde is the newest member of the Comfeet team, joining in 2013.  A graduate with First Class Honours in Podiatry, Amor is a qualified podiatrist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists in the United Kingdom.

Amor’s entry into podiatry was driven by her concern about the alarming number of diabetes related amputations in Barbados and its impact on the most vulnerable in the society.  Currently completing postgraduate studies in Podiatry with an emphasis on diabetes, Amor’s commitment to improve the quality of life for diabetic patients in Barbados is motivated by a need to contribute to the expansion of scientific understanding of the diabetic foot.

Initially gaining much experience while working on placements throughout southeast England, she has blossomed in her professional development since returning to Barbados as part of the podiatric team at Comfeet and the Barbados Diabetes Foundation. She strives to be a well-rounded practitioner by continuously honing her clinical skills as well as reflecting upon and undertaking contemporary research in lower limb assessment, pathology and treatment techniques.
